“ Had a lovely fried egg, mushroom and bacon sandwich on white gluten free bread for my lunch today with a cappuccino and gluten free muffin following a busy Sunday morning. The sandwich was delicious the coffee wonderful as always. The staff were really helpful, nothing was too much trouble and all made me feel comfortable asking for help when needed. Finding a place that has helpful staff, who cater for dietary requirements, is accessible for mobility reasons and is a safe space when on your own is difficult to find these days in my opinion. A big thank you to all the Merrie England staff at New Hey Road. ”
“ Used the drive through, but for a local sandwich shop specialising in roast beef butties you can't go wrong, but that's just my opinion. Give it a go you will like it. ”
“ Huddersfield's only Tudor-style drive thru' coffee shop. An institution - an essential brew and brekkie stop if you're in the area. ”
“ I've been going to Merrie England's for over 40 years, and I've been to this more than a few times, and over the years. I recently went a few weeks ago, and everything is just the same, I love that! It's very nostalgic for me. You can't beat the rattle of the tea cups and the steam from the machines making the tea's etc. They do the best ham sandwiches in the world! ”
“ Brilliant cafe. Merrie England is a very welcoming, cosy place for a catch up and good food. The staff here are very polite and the service is rapid. Merrie England are also taking all the right precautions against Covid-19 and so I would recommend it to anyone in the area. ”
“ Love the food. The beef and onion sandwich is my favourite, especially when it arrives with the onion and not just beef. Never complain though as the beef is plentiful and soft. Just a shame they don't have bigger premises as the sitting in is for compact and cramped especially if older, larger people need to pass your table. ”
“ Always busy because of the great food and great service. The hot roast beef sandwich with gravy is to die for. If you get the chance, try it. Turkey seasoning with pickled onion and mayo...the portion is amazing! ”
“ Hot beef and onion sandwich a speciality, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Lovely. A great selection of drinks (I had iced coffee on a nice sunny day), and large selection of cakes and sweet treats (iced Bakewell, Delish). A fabulous place and part of a small chain, others in Halifax, Brighouse and Huddersfield town centre. ”
